About Dindi backwaters

Dindi is a small village in Malikipuram mandal of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. It sits on the bank of the Vasishta Godavari. This is one of the two main arms the Godavari splits into below the Dowleswaram barrage. The river is wide here. Coconut palms and paddy fields line the banks, and small islands sit in the stream. A handful of riverside resorts have made the village a quiet weekend base.

APTDC, the state tourism corporation, runs the Haritha Coconut Country Resort at Dindi. It also runs houseboat trips from the village, with 12-hour and 24-hour packages. The boats have bedrooms, so the longer trip includes a night on the water. Private resorts nearby also arrange boat rides and island visits. Antarvedi, where the Vasishta meets the Bay of Bengal, is about 20 km away by road.

Highlights

  1. An APTDC houseboat trip on the Vasishta Godavari, for 12 or 24 hours

  5. Antarvedi temple and the river mouth, about 20 km by road

Good to know

  • Book APTDC houseboats in advance on tourism.ap.gov.in. Each boat takes up to four adults and four children.
  • Buses and lorries were barred from the Dindi–Chinchinada bridge on the Palakollu side during repairs from July 2025, while cars and autos could still cross. If you are coming by bus from that side, check that it has fully reopened. The road from Rajamahendravaram does not use this bridge.
  • Boat trips may stop when the Godavari is in flood. During the monsoon, check with the operator before you travel.
