About Kotilingeswara

The Sri Uma Kotilingeswara Swamy temple is a Shiva temple on the Godavari, at the northern, upstream end of Rajamahendravaram’s riverfront. It stands in the Seethampeta area near the paper mill, beside Kotilingala Revu. That is one of the city’s bathing ghats on the district administration’s list, and it lies roughly 1.5 km north of Pushkar Ghat. The name means ‘lord of a crore lingas’. A crore is ten million.
Pilgrims often bathe at the ghat before going in for darshan. On Karthika Pournami, devotees light oil lamps along the ghat steps for the Karthika Deepotsavam. The ghat is being upgraded for the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu, which begin on 26 June 2027. The foundation stone for the works was laid near the temple in April 2026, and the plans include toilets, changing rooms and showers at the ghat. Expect some building work around it.
Highlights
- Darshan of Kotilingeswara Swamy, the temple’s presiding Shiva
- A dip in the Godavari at Kotilingala Revu, next to the temple
- Oil lamps along the ghat steps on Karthika Pournami
- Wide views across the Godavari from the ghat steps
Good to know
- Dress modestly and leave your footwear outside before you enter the shrine.
- Karthika Pournami and Maha Shivaratri bring crowds to the ghat and temple, so go early.
- The Godavari can run fast, especially in the monsoon. Bathe only in marked areas and follow the instructions of officials at the ghat.
