About Maredumilli

Maredumilli is a forest village and mandal headquarters in the Eastern Ghats, on the road from Rajamahendravaram to Bhadrachalam. Since 31 December 2025 it has been part of the new Polavaram district, which has its headquarters at Rampachodavaram. The eco-tourism area lies about 4 km past the village on the Bhadrachalam road. It is managed by the tribal Vana Samrakshana Samithis (forest protection committees) of Valamuru, Somireddypalem and Valmeekipeta.

The forest here is semi-evergreen, with streams running over rocks in the deep woods. Visitors come for waterfalls such as Jalatarangini and Amruthadhara, and for the Manyam and Sokuleru viewpoints. The Jungle Star camp sits beside the Valamuru river, which flows around it on three sides. It looks out on the Vali-Sugriva Konda, which local belief holds was the site of the Ramayana fight between Vali and Sugriva. Roadside stalls sell bongu chicken, cooked inside a length of bamboo over a wood fire.

Highlights

  1. Jalatarangini waterfall in the semi-evergreen forest
  2. Amruthadhara waterfall, reached by a forest trek of about 2 km
  3. Manyam and Sokuleru viewpoints over the Eastern Ghats
  4. Riverside camping at Jungle Star, with the Valamuru stream on three sides
  5. Bongu chicken, cooked inside bamboo over a wood fire

Good to know

  • Book forest stays and camps in advance, especially on weekends and holidays.
  • Rocks near the falls are slippery. Wear shoes with good grip and stay out of strong currents after heavy rain.
  • Drive the ghat road in daylight, and carry water and snacks for the waterfall stops.
