About Korukonda

Korukonda is a village about 21 km north of Rajamahendravaram, on the road towards Bhadrachalam. Close to the village, on a steep hill, stands a shrine to Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. The deity at the top, shown with Lakshmi, is believed to be self-manifested (swayambhu). It is only about nine inches tall, so devotees sit down to see it. A second temple, with an installed image, stands at the foot of the hill. The district administration dates the temple to roughly 700 to 800 years ago.

To reach the top you climb a long flight of steep steps. Around the sanctum of the hilltop temple, carved panels show scenes from the Ramayana, and from the summit you look out over the countryside. The main festival is the Kalyanotsavam, the divine wedding, on Phalguna Shuddha Ekadasi, which falls in February or March. A chariot festival is held with it. Since the mid-2010s the temple has been looked after by the Annavaram Satyanarayana Swamy devasthanam.
